Sarah Jeffery, Susanna Borsch, Dodó Kis en Emily Bannister vormen Squaretet: vier blokfluitvirtuoso’s met een passie voor het ongewone. Als solisten spelen zij regelmatig op internationale podia en hebben een tal aan prijzen gewonnen, en hier bundelen zij hun krachten om de melodieuze maar toch verrassende klanken van de blokfluit te laten horen.

Dodó Kis (1991) is een Hongaarse blokfluitist en EWI speler, momenteel woonachtig in Amsterdam. Ze studeerde aan het Conservatorium van Amsterdam bij Jorge Isaac en Walter von
Hauwe, waar zij zich, naast haar oude muziek studie, ook specialiseerde in live electronics in interdisciplinaire muziek. Sinds 2011 speelt Dodó in de Royal Wind Music, een ensemble dat zich specialiseert in meerstemmige muziek uit de 16e en 17e eeuw. Sinds 2012 speelt zij tevens in Trio aXolot, een blokfluittrio dat zich verdiept in klassieke, volks- en hedendaagse muziek, muziektheater en improvisatie. Dodó is ook speelster bij Jerboah, een experimentele funk-rock band waarin zij EWI, een elektronisch blaasinstrument als bassynthesizer speelt en composities en arrangementen voor de groep maakt. Deze band werkt ook nauw samen met Brechtje, de componiste van ‘Niet de klucht van de koe’. Zowel als solist als kamermusicus en bandlid heeft Dodó gespeeld op internationale festivals en in concertzalen door heel Europa en de Verenigde Staten. Zij is ook een van de oprichters in organisatoren van de EAR-sessions, een maandelijkse concertserie die zich richt op nieuwe muziek. Momenteel onderzoekt zij de rol van de blokfluit bij improvisatie en crossover genres binnen de muziek.

Through avenues as varied as music theatre, chamber music, live electronics, and a successful Youtube presence, Sarah Jeffery is one of the world’s foremost promoters of the recorder. A specialist in contemporary music, Ms. Jeffery has commissioned and premiered dozens of contemporary works and is regularly found performing on stages and festivals all over the globe. Off-stage, she is recognized as an expert on the instrument, appearing on the BBC, as well as international radio and television. For her efforts, she has received praise for “standing out from the established repertoire” and “fresh, surprising, and explosive” performances from NRC Handelsblad, with additional recognition from numerous publications across the world. Audiences recognize Jeffery as the only recorder player invited to join Splendor, the award-winning Amsterdam-based music collective, as of 2019. She has gained significant notoriety over the years, with a full suite of past performances that include the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, the Gaudeamus Festival NL, Sonorities festival Belfast, and NEU/NOW festival Glasgow. Originally from Derbyshire in the United Kingdom, Sarah Jeffery is currently based in Amsterdam. She holds both a Master of Music cum laude and Bachelor of Music diploma from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, where she completed a thesis on the relationship between clog dancing and contemporary music theatre, and also holds a first class Bachelor of Music degree from the Birmingham Conservatoire. She is grateful to her masterful pedagogues, who include Jorge Isaac, Walter van Hauwe and Annabel Knight.

Emily Bannister is a performer with a keen passion for Contemporary music. After graduating from the Royal College of Music in London in 2014, Emily was a founding member of BLOCK4 Recorder quartet, a group that has gone on to win prizes internationally, including the Royal Overseas League, Chesapeake Chamber Music Competition, and NonClassical ‘Battle of the Bands’. With BLOCK4 she has performed in a number of prestigious venues including the Wigmore Hall, Buckingham Palace, the Royal Albert Hall and the Queen Elizabeth Hall. As a soloist, she was the winner of the Contemporary Music Prize at the Bromsgrove International Music Competition in 2016. Since moving to Amsterdam in 2017, where she has completed a Masters under Jorge Isaac, she has become interested in interdisciplinary performance, and was the winner of the
